Custom Carriage House Doors
Borders Woodworks recently completed a pair of custom carriage house doors for a home in Jacksonville Beach.
Our client told us that he really hated his “plain, ordinary, ugly garage door.” He found Borders Woodworks with a Google search for specially crafted woodworking in Jacksonville, and brought us a photo of some carriage house garage doors to give us an idea of what he wanted.
We made these carriage house doors in our San Marco shop out of black poplar, which is a good choice for exterior applications.
For added strength, we used mortise and tenon joinery to construct the solid wood doors.
After assembly and sanding, three coats of an exterior polyurethane paint were brushed on for a durable finish for the doors.
Because of its exposure to moisture, stainless steel hardware was selected.
Twelve pieces of 1/4″ thick laminated safety glass were inserted into the doors after the paint was dry.
The doors are secured to the floor and the door header with 5″ surface bolts.
Our client told us, “My doors look awesome and out shine any ocean side mansion anywhere. My neighbors are envious and I absolutely love my new doors.”
